Greenberg mapped every paper making one claim in muscle disease research: 242 papers and 675 citations. Support for the claim grew through three distortions. Papers that weakened the claim were under-cited. Papers cited it without adding any data of their own. And hypotheses turned into facts through citation alone. Counting sources that agree isn't the same as counting evidence. Follow the citations back to the papers that hold the data.
